They are suitable for treating 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-degree burns, including facial burns and scalds. How to Apply a Burnshield Contour Dressing
A qualified first aider or medical professional should be tending to a patient suffering from a burn or scald. Where this is not possible, the dressing packaging provides clear Burnshield instructions on how to use the dressing on a burn wound.
Follow these simple steps when treating a burn wound with a Burnshield contour dressing:
-
Remove any tight or restrictive items from the burn area, such as jewellery or clothing.
-
Do not remove any items firmly stuck to the wound unless they are still hot or smouldering.
-
Do not disturb the wound area or burst any blisters.
-
Open the foil package containing the Burnshield contour dressing and remove it.
-
Gently apply the dressing to the burnt area, ensuring that the Burnshield hydrogel goes beyond the surface area of the burn and that the dressing fully covers the wound.
-
Secure the dressing in place with a protective bandage. You may require multiple bandages to secure the Burnshield contour dressing to a large area safely.
-
Continue to soak the dressing area with Burnshield Hydrogel, if available. If the dressing is kept moist, it can remain in place for up to 48 hours.
-
Seek urgent medical advice for any large or deep burns and monitor the patient for signs of shock.
